Harriet Louise Berrett Hymas

Aunt Louise passed away on the 29th of December 2008. On the 2nd of January was her funeral. She had been living with Rob and Peggy Hymas for about 6 months. They were so good to her. She was a neat lady and a wonderful example as a mother and grandmother. At one time she was in the Homestead Assisted Living for respite care while Rob and Peggy had a vacation, and when I walked in the door she looked at me and smiled and said we are family, who are you? I put my arm around her and said you bet we are family. She was a great lady who always had a smile. A bit of trivia that might be interesting. Her grandfather blessed her and her name was only Louise Berrett, but when he blessed her he named her Harriet Louise Berrett after her mother.
I bet mom and Katherine and Louise are having such a great time getting caught up on everything that they had to take them to a room and shut them in so others could have some peace and quiet.

Deaths

It is funny how our lives are influenced by the things around us. When I started this Hospice job I really wanted to help people and i have had some wonderful experiences and have been touched by others in a way that i will never forget. I am a better person because of the lives that have touched mine. When I applied for this new job I was concerned about my "little people", I only had three and a younger lady that I took care of who has MS. I didn't know how I was going to find someone to take my place and I was afraid to tell them, but I did and immediately they found someone to watch the person with MS, and I was happy. The CNA from the office took my person from Plano and I was happy, it left two one a private care and one a Hospice person whom I had grown really attached to and didn't want to give up, and lo and behold yesterday Lela Hardy passed away and though I am sad, I am glad for her, and this morning Keith Zollinger passed away and I am sad but glad. To me it is a testimony that what I am about to embark upon is the will of the Lord and He is guiding my life if I let Him. All of my beloved people are now taken care of and I can go onto this new job knowing that I didn't drop anyone and having the wonderful memories that I have of each what a wonderful experience I have had!
On a sadder note Wade Mortensen son of Nancy and Joel Mortensen was killed in a head on collison in Utah yesterday morning leaving a wife and 4 children. And the week end before Dale Mcpherson's brother was killed in a car accident while going to Utah to his daughter's wedding. So sad for these dear people, I pray Heavenly Father will bless them all with peace. Note added Jan 03,2009: Darla Miyasaki passed away after having an heart attack and her funeral is today.

New Job

It is hard to believe that almost 2 years ago I retired from BYU Idaho. Three years ago the thought hadn't even crossed my mind and then one morning I woke up to a thought in my head as clear as if spoken to me, "you need to retire". I tried to put it out of my mind but after prayer and some more thinking I decided that it was what I was supposed to do, even though I had no idea how we would survive because my retirement was not enough to meet the bills, then I decided to pay off the house and my car with my savings and still it would be tight, but the feeling was still there that it was the right thing to do, sooooooooo, I did and it felt good for 6 months and then I wasn't sure how we were going to make ends meet. One day in July Jeanie called and said she wanted me to go to EITECH and register her for a CNA class so she could work at a nursing home and go to beauty school and I knew she couldn't do that because she would crash, but I went down and surprises of surprises I registered me in a CNA class instead of her, WHAT WAS I DOING! I went to Rexburg Home Health and Hospice and asked if they needed some help and they sent me to Upper Valley Home Health and I filled out an application and Dana Hughes whom I had met when she took care of daddy called me and asked if i wanted to take care of a patient she had and I said yes and things just kept moving forward and 1 year ago in December I received my CNA license and went to work for RHHH. It has been fun and hard and a real experience and opportunity. I have met so many wonderful people and have worked with some wonderful people, they have treated me good and taught me so much. I was just beginning to feel like I belonged and then right in the middle of an afternoon there was a thought in my head that was as clear as if spoken to me that I should apply for a cooking job at the Homestead Assisted Living, I thought that was strange and I didn't even know if they wanted a full time cook, but it kept bothering me and the next day while I was visiting a patient I went and talked to Michele Pacheco who is a manager at the home and she said we have tried it a couple of times but no one can do what we want, are you wanting to apply and I said yes I was thinking about it and I told her of my qualifications and she was excited and told me she would talk to Dave Thueson, the owner, and see what he said and I said I would get a resume' together and bring it in the next day and low and behold by Thursday afternoon I had a new job as the Kitchen Manager at the Homestead and it is far more then I ever expected, and a little scary. Thus far I have given my two week notice to everyone and I start Dec 29. What an opportunity this will be I pray the Lord will bless me as I step into this new phase of my life. It gives me an opportunity to cook, which I have missed and still work with the elderly which I have enjoyed. My patriarchal blessing tells me I will have many opportunities and experiences and I thought how grateful I am for the many I have had and thought they were through but there are so many more to experience and now we are close to being grand parents and the experiences just keep coming. I thank the Lord for all that is mine and for His hand in my life.

My Chill Room

Since Jeanie has left home I inherited a "Chill Room". Now you may ask "What is a "Chill Room"?" As far as I can discover it is a room that you do nothing in. Cool! So why have I worked so hard to make this room look nice if I don't do anything in it but nothing? Surprise! I'm going to put my computer in it and my Genealogy and all my histories etc. It is my "Work Room"! I've painted it and laid flooring in it and I am almost ready to put everything in it that I want. Tonight Nathan helped me finish putting the floor in and now I just need to put the trim on. My "Work Room" is going to be Cool. When you come home take a stop at my house and I'll sell you a ticket to tour my "Work Room".....just kidding, you are welcome anytime.

Death and Birth

Today a dear friend and patient is passing from this life to a new experience through the veil and I am pondering death and birth and life. As I think about this passing, that we are all going to have to go through, an analogy came to mind.
When we were getting ready to be born and our parents and family were so excited for us to come, what was happening on the other side? I know there was excitement because of the opportunity, but I think there were tears also. We knew that this birth was a great experience that we needed to go through but we would miss family and friends so it was a sad excitement. The same happens now as this experience comes to an end for my dear friend. She is headed to a new experience and will be out of the pain and suffering of this life. We know that she must leave us and we are excited for her but we are also sad because we will miss her and her sweet smile. And on the other side, waiting for her, are family and friends who are excited for her return who are preparing for her just as her family prepared for her birth into this world. So today I am seeing that basically birth and death are the same. As we leave one existence we enter into another as we progress toward becoming like our Heavenly Father. Lela I will miss you. Thank you for being my friend and being so kind to me and when my time comes to be born into the death experince will you be there to greet me home?

Facts to remember

The barn in Kilgore was built by my grandfather David Hirsch Junior in 1933. They milked cows by hand until 1937 when grandpa bought a gas run milker. My dad David Junior Hirschi almost burnt the barn down when he went to start the milker and he filled it with gas and then pulled the crank and then took off the manifold cover to check to see if he had flooded it and it backfired and started the whole barn on fire. The cows were bellering and he had to use one of grandpa's fire extinguishers that takes the oxygen out of the air to put it out. He also had to turn the cows out of the barn for the same reason.
